New College Counselor Joins Wheeler
January 7, 2020
We are pleased to announce that Michael J. Geller has joined the College Counseling Office in January of this academic year. Mr. Geller has more than 20 years of experience in the college admissions field in a variety of positions at Wheaton College (in Massachusetts), The George Washington University (GW) and, most recently, at Worcester Academy. He graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College. Upon graduating, Mr. Geller worked in the Wheaton College Office of Admission. After a 16 year tenure at Wheaton, Mr. Geller joined the staff at The George Washington University where he served as the New England Regional Director of Admissions/Associate Director of Regional Programs. In January of 2018, Mr. Geller left GW and moved to the high school side of the college application process at Worcester Academy where he served as their Director of College Counseling.
While at GW, Mr. Geller served as the New England Regional Representative. In this role, he served as our students’ primary contact with the GWU Admissions Office and has enjoyed reading hundreds of applications from talented and motivated Wheeler students. When asked why he was attracted to this position at Wheeler he responded, “I have always respected and valued the Wheeler education. The genuine intellectual curiosity of the student body and community values are what make Wheeler an amazing place. The opportunity that I will have to be able to work with such a talented student body, engaged faculty, and dedicated staff made this decision one of the easiest I’ve faced.”
College Counseling Director Amy Baumgartel Singer ’89 said, “We are extremely excited, not only for his excellent credentials and long tenure in the college admissions field but also for Mr. Geller’s enthusiasm for coming to work at Wheeler. We look forward to having you meet him in person.”
College Counseling Co-director David Michel has been awarded a sabbatical for the spring term and will return to the classroom at its conclusion.
