The Wheeler School Experience

Every aspect of the Wheeler experience is designed to foster a lifelong love of learning in our young people, and to foster their growth, curiosity, creativity, and empathy.

From the moment you set foot on our urban campus or at the Farm, you can feel the energy: a crackling, buzzing dynamic that transcends age, grade, role, or area of study. Our entire community is eager, invested, and joyful, and we love to learn about one another, and the world around us.

At Wheeler, we invite you to become “hyphenated”: a microbiologist-singer-soccer player, a creative writer-programmer-sculptor, or a historian-dancer-chef. You’re never relegated to one box; the more curiosity you possess, the more opportunities you’ll have to pursue.

From their first days here, our youngest students are shepherded by older “buddies” who show them the ropes… and year after year, they grow into the role models for the next generation.

We embrace different backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, and celebrate both our differences and our commonalities. Everyone is welcome here, and we bring that same sense of compassion and kindness to the service projects we take on in the communities around us.

Come explore what’s possible with an open heart and an open mind.

In the City

From our Hirsch/Alperin Design-Innovate-Build Lab, Cityside Program for Gr. Eight, NuVuX Studio Term in Upper School, Chazan Gallery, to the Digital Production Studio, our urban campus provides an innovative, immersive, learn-by-doing experience. Our facilities rival that of a small college, clean, up-to-date, safe and supportive of the educational needs of today’s learners.

On the Farm

At our Farm campus in Seekonk, MA—with 120 acres of room to run—students from each of our divisions explore, get their hands dirty, and learn, unconstrained by classroom walls. Two unique-to-Wheeler programs take place on this rural setting: Forest Fridays for our Early Childhood grades N-K and the Farm Program of experiential learning for Grade Six.

Unity & Diversity

We celebrate our differences and our commonalities––and we are stronger because of our unwavering commitment to a plurality of personal experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. At Wheeler, diversity isn’t something that’s layered on, it’s core to who we are.

The first of its kind in southeast New England, Wheeler is the host campus to a regional diversity, equity and inclusion conference.

Our Community

Our community of families is warm, welcoming, and supportive––with parents actively engaged in each child’s education. Beyond campus, we purposefully interact with and give back to the broader Providence community through meaningful service initiatives. Each year, the entire campus takes part in Founder’s Day, contributing nearly 1,000 volunteers in a school-day to Providence’s parks and recreation centers and other nonprofits.

Clubs & Activities

There’s something for everyone to pursue, from the Upper School’s Cosmos Club with its cosmic ray detector to six groups dedicated to the environment. We encourage interests and advance talents—so if an activity doesn’t exist yet, we’ll work with our students to get it started. We love and support your ideas.

After Care & Camps

We support families with a variety of enriching after-school care programs as well as Vacation Camp, and Wheeler Summer Camp (the latter open to the public.)
