Ten Wheeler Students Named Semifinalists in 68th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program
September 21, 2022
Wheeler is proud to share that 10 of our students have been named Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program! Congratulations to Manu A. ’23, Stephan B. ’23, Harry F. ’23, Daniel H. ’23, Rohan J. ’23, Myles J. ’23, Anna M. ’23, Luca P. ’23, Amol R. ’23, and Andrew S. ’23. They now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.
High School juniors entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
To become a Finalist, each Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Director of College Counseling Amy Baumgartel Singer ’89 P’20, P’24 praised Wheeler’s 2022 Semifinalists for their hard work, saying, “We congratulate these students on this achievement–the first in a long list of achievements this senior class will enjoy by the end of this year!”
We also extend our congratulations to nine students named as National Merit Commended Scholars. They include Eliot A. ’23, Jason “Riley” H. ’23, Joshua H. ’23, Nicholas K. ’23, Mariana M. ’23, Franciszek P. ’23, Ridley P. ’23, William W. ’23, and Miranda Y. ’23.
