Head of School’s Welcome
A Special Message from the Head Of School: Why We Need To Repair The World
Everyone who works in a school has their own personal reason that brings them to – and keeps them in – the field of education. For me, it is the joy of working with young people and families, and the powerful work I have the opportunity to do with teachers, both inside and outside the classroom. I have never wavered in my sense that education is my life’s work, and I have never been more compelled by a school than by The Wheeler School.
As you peruse these “pages,” you will find descriptions of rigorous academic offerings that have been crafted over many years, of our students’ accomplishments and accolades, and of a rich array of programs that are a product of the school’s spirit of innovation. I hope you will also get a sense of the joyful engagement of an N-12 community where three-year-olds through young adults learn and play together on a city block and a nearby farm campus, where they learn to understand, respect, and enjoy one another.
While you will find here lists and facts that describe this fine institution, I was struck during my first actual visit to campus by the community’s singular energy and sense of purpose. At Wheeler, learning is vigorously pursued, and a buzz is felt in every corner, classroom, studio, and field, due to exceptional faculty, talented students, excellent facilities, and a world-class curriculum. Mary Colman Wheeler’s founding example, as an entrepreneur, artist, and educational activist, informs our efforts to discover and nurture every student’s passions and, alongside a thorough investigation of traditions and questions about our world, to provide a platform for exploration and achievement.
We welcome you to our site and invite you to come and see Wheeler for yourself.
